My favorite sushi in Ann Arbor. I've visited nearly all the sushi places in Ann Arbor, and by far, Nagomi is my favorite. Their is one roll there that blows all other sushi places around of the water, it is the Nagomi spicy tuna roll. It is so delicious I'm going to have to put plastic wrap on my keyboard so I don't salivate over it thinking them right now. The Nagomi spicy tuna roll always comes with a generous hunk of fresh tuna, which isn't chopped and mixed in with spicy mayo, like most other places, and comes with a sweet and spicy (although it's not very spicy) sauce which is out of this world. I suppose I may be biased, sinced my "bread and butter" are spicy tuna rolls; if you prefer other rolls your opinion may vary, although I've had their other rolls and they are pretty good as well. The thing that maybe makes Nagomi the best is the service. Despite the fact that I go there at least once a week, the Mom and Pop store feeling along with them always greeting you with a smile and remembering who you are (the true sign of a foodie, or fattie), is always nice. For anyone who doesn't give Nagomi 4 stars or more, I argue that they simply haven't gave Nagomi a chance. If you simply don't like Nagomi, I simply say, "You crazy!"

I'm no sushi expert but I know what I like. A coworker introduced me to Nagomi as an alternative to the No Thai we'd been eating all week. Its a small restaurant so the lunch rush gets packed but the food is definitely worth it. The lunch specials are fairly priced, taste great and don't take an hour to serve (like other sushi places I've been).

Nice Sushi Bar and friendly staff. I had the Sashimi B which was reasonably cost however I had to knock off two stars due to the Men's bathroom toilet leaking water and there was a shop vac next to it.

Had their Katsu-don. It's been too long since I've had Japanese food. I went there with 4 other Japanese people, and all were pleased wiith the food. Their katsu-don was adequate. It satisfied my need for fried Japanese food, which I haven't had in too long.

Best sushi I've had! The employees and owners are very personable, swift, and they always use high quality ingredients. Everything tastes fresh and as if they just cooked it. It is in close proximity to my apartment and I always stop by there if I want a quick, healthy snack.

Excellent sushi, excellent ramen (the shoyu ramen is my favorite), and remarkably friendly and attentive service. My current favorite Japanese restaurant in Ann Arbor.

Wow! This place is great! The food is really well done--we had two bento boxes, an Udon lunch special (that came with a spicy tuna roll), and a curry beef over rice. All four of us loved the food and the prices were really reasonable. This reminds me of some of the places I used to go to in Yokohama when I lived in Japan. Overall--great food, great quality, and at such a great value! The staff seem to really take care with the food and refilling your water and tea. I'm so glad for this addition to Ann Arbor--I think it rivals Yotsuba on the bento boxes and other cooked, homestyle Japanese food, but at a fraction of the price. It's in an unassuming location in the small strip mall by Marco's Pizza and Bagel Fragel and it is a real gem!

Excellent service & food for a neighborhood sushi place. Had the lunch bento today and it was really good value for the price. The bento set had a side of takoyaki - which was a pleasant surprise!

I was pleasantly surprised today when I walked into Nagomi Sushi. The atmosphere is really cozy and lovely and they were playing some great Billie Holiday music. I was brought the pickled cucumber salad and hot tea immediately and miso soup and ginger salad soon after which were all delicious. The ginger dressing was definitely homemade. I ordered the kitsune udon bowl and a shrimp california roll which were brought out at the same time. The sushi was absolutely rolled by a real pro and was just as delicious as it looked. The udon broth was out of this world. I have never had an udon bowl with that much flavor and the fried tofu had a really wonderful and interesting flavor that I was not accustomed to. There was a slight sweetness to it. The service was also really great. Tiffany was very attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be going back, I found my new favorite sushi bar in Ann Arbor!

Though I'm not from Ann Arbor, every time I visit friends, we always make sure to go here. It is inexpensive and has great food. One of my favorite things about this place is that their soy sauce is homemade and is made to be low sodium. Its a little small, but definitely cozy. My friends and I don't eat meat, so we usually get edamame, avocado rolls, and avocado/cucumber/asparagus rolls. If I ate meat, I'd totally get the avocado bowl, as it always looks so steller. Definitely would recommend this restaurant.

1st visit for our party of five as we were passing through on our way to the Toledo area...we were specifically looking for a restaurant that served udon noodles/Japanese fare. Read the glowing reviews on google and decided to give this a try versus our usual preference for Chinese buffet. Located in an unassuming strip off the beaten path (we didn't even see their name listed on the billboard by the entrance from the road), it was a pleasant surprise to step through an equally unassuming entrance to be met by a lovely wooden decorated door. Yep, the door intrigued me, as I hadn't expected such a classy intro into the interior, especially as this place is sandwiched between a Marco's Pizza and Bagel joint. Stepping through, we were delighted with the warmly inviting and tastefully decorated atmosphere that immediately made you forget the USA you left a few steps behind. Tastefully elegant w/o the sometimes accompanying intimidation of dress code and price of other restaurants, the number of Asian customers confirmed this must be the real deal. Waitresses were sincerely (not fake) pleasant and quick to observe if we needed an explanation w/o us having to ask. No communication awkwardness (a smile is a smile in any language :) ). Menu didn't fully explain what was what, but there were enough English speaking servers to assist if we wanted details. We felt more adventurous than knowledgeable but all ingredients that were mentioned sounded tasty, so we took the easy way out and ordered a variety platter of 8 sushi rolls. They were in the process of making a new batch of tea, so we started with water...didn't seem to be any other drink choices, but that was fine with us (it added to a more authentic Asian experience versus the more common American Asian buffet menu). Ordered 1 bowl of udon noodles to share; the wait was reasonable considering the sushi was being made up fresh; in the meantime, we were served miso soup and by the time we were done, the udon soup arrived tastefully arranged in a good sized kettle bowl that made you feel like a Japanese Mom & Pop had just dished up a generous home-cooked meal versus the sometimes Japanese Spartan little-that's-suppose-to-go-a-long-way presentation (how full is a little bit of beautiful suppose to make you feel? :) The sushi brought exclamations of delight as it was served on a multi level "boat" platter that took up quite alot of space down the middle of the table (I doubt they stick that huge thing in a dishwasher to clean :D)...the various sushi were arranged in separate groupings with a tastefully arranged mildly sweet pile of sliced ginger and a separate pat of wasabi. Each of us were given chopsticks (no forks) and small rectangular holders wherein you could pour your soysauce to dip the sushi into. We were offered plates, which we declined. The Nagomi sushi was our favorite, having an almost sweet mildly spicy bar-b-que taste. Haven't experienced that taste in the past 3 years that we've been introduced to Japanese cuisine in the Toledo area. "Straight up" tea was brought out at the end for that after-dinner-coffee type warmth. Again, the real deal (no teabag). No dessert offered but we were already so full that none was needed, and there was enough of a variety of sweetness in the sushi sauces and in the one variety with cream cheese. Very satisfying, and boy, were we hungry when we walked in! :) Really enjoyed and appreciated our taste of the Orient in Ann Arbor! :) Will be back!

I have been coming down here from WAY up north for medical treatment .My 16 year old foodie in training and I usually indulge in the stuff we can't find in the farthest corners of rural Michigan before heading home. My favorite sushi addict wanted his usual, so we stopped in before the long drive home. The tempura is light and crisp and delicate and does not taste of old oil. Swoon! I love the Salmon on the Beach. Cream cheese is not normally my thing, but this I love. Adore. I want to marry it and make little saucy salmon babies with it. The yellowtail and salmon were the most buttery, velvety, melt in your mouth pieces of nigiri I have ever eaten. If I weren't so stuffed, I would have had one more of each. My son had to indulge his ramen obsession. The shoyu is incredible, nice slab of tender meaty pork, rich porky broth, firm bouncy noodles. If you are sad, or sick, or broken in any way, it is just the thing to restore you. I think I had 20 cups of tea. I love good tea. Not too hot, not too bitter. I can't think of many things that make one look forward to a trip to the doctor, but teen and I are eagerly awaiting our next trip south, and an empty belly.

Okay, here it goes, another sushi review. I'll admit, I'm a bit self-conscious this time around, especially after having read some other reviews of sushi places in Ann Arbor. Here goes my full disclosure: 1. I do not make sushi, therefore am ill-equipped to discuss knife technique, rice-moisture, packing-density, etc. 2. I've eaten sushi on the coasts and overseas, so I feel like I have some idea of what "good" sushi taste like. No guarantees. 3. I'm not Japanese. Whew, now that's out of the way... I actually like Nagomi quite a bit; I would actually probably rate it more like a 3.5. I've had it twice now, once ordering lunch at work, and today for lunch in the restaurant. The stand-out to me is the Nagomi Spicy Tuna, which isn't the standard blended-mayo explosion, but rather a nice big cut of fish rolled with a really tasty sauce. I think the lunch special is a great deal: Miso soup or salad, 3 rolls of your choice, bottomless green tea, all for $10. The Bento also seems like a great deal, although I haven't had it yet. If I'm comparing to the other Plymouth road sushi spot, Umi Sushi (see my review!), I would say Nagomi has better spicy tuna, way better service, and a friendlier atmosphere. Very accessible, easy parking, and if you need a bagel fix or car insurance, it's in the same plaza. So that's a win. Pros: Nagomi Spicy Tuna, service with a smile, decent music (jazz!), great lunch special, cozy atmosphere, easy parking Cons: sushi itself is nothing to get excited about, location isn't in the most vibrant part of Ann Arbor

Maybe I'm missing something but our one experience at Nagomi certainly didn't live up to the great reviews here. We had sushi, sashimi, tempura, zaru soba, tonkatsu and agedashi tofu. The tempura was good, the rest was 'meh'. Worst of all, the fish was *not* fresh. The maguro (tuna) had that "just thawed" texture, the salmon was dull and mushy. There was something unidentifiable that may have been hamachi that was downright fishy. Blech. Maybe the trick is to stick to the Americanized dishes like the California rolls and spicy tuna rolls...

All I have to say is wow! The food and the prices were excellent. If you haven't tried it yet I'd say eat here soon, because once North Campus realizes how great it is you won't be able to find a seat. It started off with a nice green tea a little weaker than I like but a very good flavor. This was followed by a vinegary cucumber salad that was a perfect start to the meal. We ordered one 3 roll lunch ($10), a 2 roll lunch ($8), and a Shoyu Ramen ($9 I think). With the 2 or 3 lunch roll you get miso soup and salad. The salad was large and had an excellent ginger dressing on it and the miso had seaweed pieces big enough that you actually had to chew it. At that point we realized if the rest of the food was as good we had a new favorite Sushi restaurant in A2. Then they brought out the rolls. We had gotten 2 Nagomi Spicy Tuna rolls, a shrimp tempura roll, a black mushroom roll, and a California roll. The black mushroom roll was a little sweet for me, but still very tasty. The tempura on the shrimp was light and flaky, and the California roll had a nice piece of avocado in it that really gave it a balanced flavor, but the roll that stole the show was the Nagomi Spicy Tuna roll. So many sushi restaurants use "blended" tuna in their rolls, but the Nagomi Spicy Tuna roll was made with beautiful cuts of tuna steak. It looked and tasted better than tuna I've gotten as Nigri/Sashimi. When I get the combo in the future this roll will always be one of my 3. My friend who ate the Ramen said the Shoyu broth was excellent and for him he gave it one of the best recommendations he can give, that it was nearly as good as Matsuchan in Canton. We were finishing up and talking about how this was going to be our new goto sushi place when the guy who I'm guessing is the manager brought out one of their premier rolls for free for us to try. It was called Samon on the Beach, and was a chargrilled salmon on a tasty roll. It was incredible. We talked with the manager for a little while and he told us that the sushi chef was actually Japanese so many of the rolls they serve are truly authentic. With how perfect the rolls were (nice and tight and perfectly bite size) I could tell they were rolled by a pro. We left stuffed to the gills with a bill of $27. We will be back and with that price we will be back often.

Whilst visiting Ann Arbor, my husband and I stopped here for dinner. It's a small restaurant in a little strip mall, but don't let that fool you! The ramen here is excellent!!! The Shuyu Ramen I ordered had generous pieces of pork, perfectly cooked thin ramen noodles, and all the traditional ramen fixings (bamboo shoots, seaweed, green onions, egg). And the broth was so flavorful! Loved every bite :D I also ordered a sushi roll that had shrimp tempura in it and was covered with spicy mayo and orange slices. Very interesting combination, and surprisingly tasty. Overall, great experience here and I would definitely come back for the ramen if I didn't live 4 hours away.

So, I've been waiting for this place to open since I saw it under construction. More food options in North Ann Arbor are always welcome. As I walk in, I'm immediately given hot tea, and soon a salad and some sweet pickled cucumbers come before I even decide what to order. Very good first impression. I think the tea was hojicha (roasted green), it wasn't generic or cheap tasting. But really I should talk about the food. I ordered miso ramen. The pork was rather bland, and the miso on the thinner side of average. Still, very passable miso ramen. But it only gets better from here. Since I decided spur of the moment to see if it had opened yet I was alone, and thus sat at the sushi bar. Apparently a good choice, because I got free spicy tuna rolls - which were quite good. And spicy, which was fine with me but a little too much for the guy next to me. I decided to finish off with egg nigiri, and it was big, and sweet. Did I mention big? It was kind of comical how there was literally 4 times as much egg as rice. Did I mention sweet? It was pushing the line of enjoyably sweet, in my opinion. But it was free. Wait, even more free sushi? Since they lost the egg order and it took a while (honestly not long at all during dinner rush), they didn't charge me. And the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Food was 3.5 stars, but the service, and 2 free items, makes it a 4.5 really. Their website says Sushi & Noodles, but the building just says Sushi. I believe the building, but from what I saw and ate, the rest seems good enough.

Nothing special. Not too horrible, but nothing to be excited over. They like to boil the egg in their ramen into a sulfuric oblivion, rendering it pretty much inedible.

I FEEL LIKE YELP TRICKED ME! If this is a four-star sushi restaurant, AA is in trouble. Ick. First we started with some miso soup - pretty weak, with measly bits of tofu and seaweed (seriously - maximum three seaweed scraps in the whole bowl). I've had better miso soup out of a Trader Joe's powder packet. We got a few of pieces of nigiri - yellowtail, albacore and salmon. The rice was hard and flavorless, and the fish was chewy, stringy and tasted old. It was a murky, fishy taste. The albacore seemed to have been frozen and thawed. We also picked a couple of rolls - the Michigan roll and another one with a few kinds of fish and cucumber (forgot the name). The Michigan roll was..ok. It was the best thing we had. The spicy tuna was decent, but the tempura shrimp had to have been pre-fried. It was barely crunchy - a texture like chewing styrofoam peanuts. The nori was obviously stale, no crisp to it, and it had thickened and gotten chewy.. stuck in my throat uncomfortably. The other roll was ATROCIOUS.. huge and impossible to chew. The cucumber was the only flavor that came through, despite all the fish in the roll. It was just bad. To top it all off, the wasabi on the side was super-weak. I piled it on just to get a little kick. Meh. I wanted to try the ramen, but after the lackluster sushi, I couldn't. I just assumed Nagomi carries its quality standards through everything they serve. C'mon Ann Arbor, you can do better.

I live near Nagomi, and I was very happy to find it. It's cozy and pleasant inside and the service is very caring. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. Lately I've noticed that you can now either choose soup or salad rather than both, and the rolls have gotten smaller. But, it's still delicious and I'll keep going back.

If I could, I would give Nagomi 3.5 stars. There are definitely better sushi restaurants in Ann Arbor but Nagomi's the best value in North Campus. My favorite things to get are the daily lunch specials. The udon special is a bowl of broth and noodles accompanied with 6 pieces of the choice roll of the day. The curry rice is also a great choice for anybody not craving sushi. When eating sushi, price is a difficult thing to reconcile. To get full, you will probably have to spend around $15 which is pretty reasonable for sushi. I recommend the Salmon on the Beach roll or spicy salmon.

I came here numerous times and have tried majority of the menu. There are pros and cons to this restaurant. Although there are great qualities of this restaurant, I can only give three stars because there are just too many downsides. CONS: I am not a fan of their appetizers. My friend and I really wanted to get to know the menu so we ordered all the appetizers to try them and I hated all of them. I just don't know how to put it...none of it was delicious....for example, the chicken appetizer was EXTREMELY dry. I would also avoid the desserts. The green tea cheesecake was FROZEN. (Like ROCK HARD frozen). I struggled to cut the cheesecake with a knife. The service is slow and unprofessional. Every time I come here my server seems nervous and clueless. PROS: Ton Kat Su is DELICIOUS. I love the noodles it comes with too! The sushi rolls are quite scrumptious. They're not the best in town, but they are delightful. I like the chirashi here. Not the freshest fish ever, but quite delightful. I also really enjoy the hot pots here. The location is what brings me back every time. It's very convenient because I live on North Campus.

It started with sit anywhere you would like. I sit down. I am then asked to move because the workers are going to sit there and eat soon. That's fine okay, I move I order the lunch special 3 rolls 10$ not bad I ask for soup and salad. The miso was bland and looked like the instant soup out of a packet. Salad dressing not good. All three of my rolls are so salty I don't know if I can even finish them. And to top that off I found hair in my ginger. I'm not normally someone that writes a bad review I normally just never go back but today I am just so disappointed.

It is the best sushi roll in the world!! I love it so much. My husband travels the world, and loves sushi and the Salmon on the Beach here is his all time favorite as well. Oh and I love the Jazz music that's always playing.

Very satisfying, and boy, were we hungry when we walked in! :) Really enjoyed and appreciated our taste of the Orient in Ann Arbor! :) Will be back!

It's wet outside, I'm tired, I'm hungry and I live too close to a sushi restaurant that I once heard (from a trusted source might I add) that it was really good. I thought to myself, "In this plaza, this plaza right here. The one that I have been avoiding for the year that I have lived in the area?" Yes, that very one. ONCE AGAIN - I am upset with myself, all that venturing off to downtown to find good food when it's right in my backyard?! I walked in like a wet cat, upset at the weather and the world and two smiles greet me and ask, "Table for you?" I mumbled, "I just want take out," and quickly that smile walked toward me with a menu. I skimmed it, the options seemed like too many, and upon my hubs walking in, I decided that I would get things we both liked. Simple enough - cream cheese, tempura, tuna and salmon. Sunday Morning, A Dragon Roll, and Tuna something was what we put on our menu and coincidentally the order in which we liked them. While we waited, we were offered tea and water, in which I happily chose some tea. No longer a wet cat, I became a warm soul. Within minutes my food was ready and not even a half hour later, around the time of the first bite, I was in sushi paradise and couldn't have been happier. Definitely happy to have taken my friends' advice, this will definitely be my new restaurant haunt (when I don't feel like venturing to Yotsuba). With such a lovely staff and spacious layout, I definitely will be back. PS. I also really liked that I didn't have to wait the way I might have at Yotsuba (shots fired). PS PS...Yes, I know Yotsuba is worth it.

One plus about Nagomi Sushi is that since it's right next to the Courtyards apartments and North Campus it stays open late to serve hungry college students, and the workers don't seem perturbed by late diners either. The boy and I came in for quite a late dinner ~9:30pm. One gets a choice of complimentary miso soup or salad, and we both went with the typical salad of lettuce leaves with a gingery dressing. We ordered a spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and eel and avocado roll. I normally don't like saucy sushi rolls, and our assortment of classic rolls hit the spot for me.

I used to come to this restaurant for lunch a few years ago and loved the food and service, so I was excited to go back for dinner. My husband and I went on a Friday evening and we were very disappointed. It was very understaffed- 2 servers managing the entire restaurant. We were sat at a dirty table and waited for the tabletop o be cleaned. We ordered pork katsu, spicy salmon roll, and yum yum roll. Pork katsu was very overcooked. Spicy salmon roll had a weird brown spot on it and was not a roll- it was dilapidated! (I posted a picture of this). And yum yum roll is supposed to have crab meat per the menu, but it was imitation crab stick. Again, this too, was over fried like the katsu... the fish in the roll was half-cooked as a result. The server never came back to check on us or the food after dropping off the dishes.

Slow as hell Service is slower than me solving an algebra problem. I've been here for 15 minutes and just got my lunch request taken. Seriously? ? And I thought Asians were fast! This is the 3rd time I've come here and had to wait at length. I won't be back!

Medium sized sushi restaurant located on the North Campus of the University of Michigan. The restaurant itself was clean and the service was very friendly. I went during lunch time on a particularly snowy day, but there were still several customers in the restaurant. I ordered one of the lunch combinations, which came with a small udon and small chirashi bowl. My friend with me order the katsu curry. The udon itself tasted like any other udon I had. The soup wasn't too sweet or salty and the noodles were cooked well. The chirashi bowl was so-so as well. The bowl came with from what I could tell - salmon, tuna, white tuna(?), tilapia, imitation crab, and tamago. It's not the usual stuff you see in a chirashi bowl, but I can't complain about a lunch special. Unfortunately, the fish wasn't the freshest fish, where the fish tasted slightly water-logged (best I could describe) and had a slight fishy taste as well. My friend's katsu curry was not bad either. There wasn't much katsu (just one pretty flat cutlet), but a good hefty portion of rice and curry. The curry itself was pretty good; however, the flavor was a little strong. I can make normal curry taste bland after having this curry. Not much of a complain because of the taste of curry, but beware it you are looking for a light curry - this is the opposite of that!

Maybe we had a bad meal, but it is hard for me to understand how this restaurant could earn *any* 4-star reviews. I ordered the Shoyu ramen, my wife ordered a sushi dish, my sons ordered curry udon and shrimp tempura. Every dish was below average, and generally well below what I could make at home. The Shoyu ramen was bland and the broth was clearly from a package mix, not homemade. The vegetables and meat were also not fresh. They included a pickled vegetable in the ramen, which conflicted awfully with the ramen broth. I could easily make better ramen at home! I should say I lived in Japan one year and have high standards, but this was not even close. I took one bite of my wife's salmon, and it was mealy. Fresh ingredients are an absolute must in sushi, and this fell far short of that mark. The tempura was overly battered, not served lightly battered as is the Japanese tradition. The best dish was the curry udon. About what you would expect. This dish relies less on fresh ingredients that the others we ordered. Although the dining room was clean and attractively decorated, service was painstakingly slow. From other reviews it appears Nagomi chronically understaffed. I would not come back for either noodles or sushi, even as a back up. A disappointment.

I have never been so angry with a restaurant practice before. I just ordered a sushi roll to go. They did not tell me that I needed to wait for a long time. Actually, they had other orders from the guests as well as other people having ordered "Take out". So, they must have known that I NEEDED TO WAIT LONG. " WHY DID NOT TELL ME IN ADVANCE??" I waited 25 minutes at the restaurant for a sushi roll. They charged you at the first minute. Besides, the food there is overpriced. I would never go there again. For Japanese restaurant in Ann Arbor, I highly recommend "Yotsuba" and "Miki" instead. Horrible Business Practice! Horrible!! Outrageous!!!

The princess roll is to DIE for. Same goes for the spicy pork. The atmosphere can be a bit loud when a band is in house playing, but overall I recommend this place!

After searching in vain for a go to sushi place in town I think I finally found it in Nagomi. First off, it's north of downtown which means far less crowded. I do like Miki's okay but on a busy evening parking can be a real bitch and I like that Nagomi is a bit removed from all that. Secondly, the rolls are pretty well priced. Some of the fancier stuff is expensive but if you stick with the basic rolls like spicy tuna or salmon it's about 6 bucks a pop. Not terrible and certainly cheaper than the equivalent at some other places around town (I'm looking at you, Plum Market). Thirdly, yes. The lunch specials ARE all that. Great deals here, folks. Fourthly, not just sushi. But udon, curries, and more. Great if you're craving a roll but also if you want something warm and comforting like a bowl of udon. Now, I haven't tried them yet but I like that they're offered. Will update next time when I give them a taste. Okay, I'm going to stop numbering now. This place IS great, though. The avocado bowl, as many have pointed out, is FANTASTIC. I love the creaminess of the fresh avocado and the spicy tuna, the kick of the wasabi mayo, and a bit of crunch thanks to the tempura bits tucked inside. Also, yes. The salmon on the beach roll is the bomb. I LOVED the char on the top. Added a great element of flavor to the roll. Too bad I just bought a boatload of groceries yesterday. Because after writing this review I am now craving this place something fierce!

Food are generally good. BUT NEVER order the noodles. They sometimes cook the noddles ordered by others (but not served yet) again and serve them to you. You will know what I am talking about if you only have this Japanese restaurant around your place and you miss noodles so much.

Don't get me wrong, the waitstaff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy (loved the jazz music playing), but the sushi we ordered was disgusting. We tried five different rolls to get a good sense of their menu - a menu loaded with cream cheese rolls and shrimp tempura, which is automatically disappointing to see a lackluster of choices. The sushi did not taste fresh - it tasted tough and some of the pieces looked a little fishy (by that I mean they did not taste or look like fish). Our yum-yum roll was dripping in grease. I like the atmosphere and the staff but if they get a hold of this review, I would really hope that they change their menu and ingredients. Kroger sushi is better than this by a huge margin, so save yourself the trip.

Dear Nagomi, Let's be honest. Tonight was a one-star affair; it's only for the sake of good old times that I threw on another star. We were hungry and tired. We were told to seat ourselves and placed our order. We got our tea and soup immediately, hooray. We got our sushi and depending on the roll it was meh (spicy tuna) to excellent (some kind of mystery roll we ordered by accident--maybe Nagomi spicy salmon?) Here's the thing: We ran out of tea within something like five minutes after the sushi arrived. Did the server top us off while dropping off the sushi? Nope. Did he drop by to ask us how our meal was, and notice that our tea needed a refill? Nope and nope. I offered my husband the last few drops of my tea while we waited in vain for a little server attention, which he gamely refused. We never even saw our server between his delivery of our food to our finishing said food. For the majority of our meal, we were sadly dry, wishing we had tea but alas, there was none to be had. We couldn't even get a good enough sight line to our server to flag him down with some angry hand waving. We placed our sad little empty tea mugs at the edge of the table, hoping that when he cleared away another patron's table he would notice our plight and take pity. Not so. He came back a few minutes later and dropped off the bill and cleared off our plates. He looked right at our empty cups and then walked away. What. The. Hell. We've been to Nagomi since our college days, since before Nagomi expanded into the space next door. I remember warm welcomes and good service. We had our pick of Ann Arbor establishments during our visit back to town tonight and for old times' sake, we went with Nagomi instead of other favorites. What a mistake. I don't know what's lacking: server training or some other intangible quality that is essential to customer satisfaction. But here I am, at home a long drive later, gulping down some water because a server couldn't figure out that tea comes with refills. Just ridiculous.

Sushi and udon were both pretty good (not the best but good) and very reasonable priced. :) The only negative part of my meal was my spoon tasted like chemicals, but our waitress quickly fixed that.

Met a friend for dinner here and was quite shocked that I had never seen this restaurant or heard of it before Yelping what was in the area. The location is a nondescript plaza near North Campus and parking can be a problem if there is a lunch or dinner rush. I ordered the avocado bowl, per the recommendations of other Yelpers, and the Alaskan roll. The Alaskan roll was underwhelming and overpriced. For 5$, six small pieces of sushi with low quality fish with smushed and oxidized avocado left me with a poor impression of what other sushi could be served here. The avocado bowl was the saving grace and I would definitely come back just to have this app. It's a little bowl sized mound of mashed raw tuna with crunchy tempura bits covered in slices of avocado and sauced with a sweet mayo and the eel sauce. This was delicious and definitely not big enough to share with someone else. The service was friendly and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. Even though the quirky booth seating can be a little awkward, the restaurant was quiet enough to have a decent conversation without yelling across the table. If it wasn't 90 degrees out, I would have definitely tried the hot noodles. The descriptions piqued my interest. Overall, I would say the sushi isn't as amazing as some of the other places you find in Ann Arbor but there is that avocado bowl app to try if you do make the trek up to this part of town.

While Nagomi offers a wide menu selection at very reasonable prices, the food is hardly impressive. For my entree, I ordered the chirashi and yellowtail/scallion roll. It came with standard salad and miso soup as sides. Some of the chirashi sushi pieces had slightly off aftertaste which makes me suspect the freshness of the fish? Granted this is Ann Arbor so my expectation was low to begin with. Maybe their lunch or other non-sushi items on the menu are better choices? Perhaps the restaurant is located near student housing, the place was extremely busy on a weeknight. The service was tolerable considering that only two servers (poor guys) were onsite running around servicing the full house.

I've been here a few times. I really like the expansion. As far as sushi places go it's pretty standard. There isn't really anything special about it but it wasn't terrible either. I'd go again if there's no other sushi place I feel like going to.

I would rate Nagomi's food as a 3.5, but because the servers and sushi chefs are super nice and accommodating are why I bumped the rating up to a 4. They have some good lunch specials: 3 rolls for $10 & Lunch Bentos for $10 (3-4 pieces of nigiri, shrimp gyoza, korean potato salad, salad with sweet mayo dressing-not very good, & a california roll-this bento changes daily) & comes with miso soup & salad. I was very impressed by their fresh tasting nigiri pieces. I've had several special rolls here and they were all okay, but I wouldn't get them again. I will definitely return to try their sashimi and nigiri combos!

We went to Nagomi Sushi because of the positive ratings on Google. We ordered Omakase Nigiri plate and salmon teriyaki. The omakase came with eight piece of nigiri and california rolls. 6 out of 8 nigiri wasn't good and below average - fish didn't taste fresh and was kinda dry. California rolls were average. The salmon plate was also average, too much sauce though. It might be a bad day for them (i.e. the quality of fish wasn't good for some reasons?), so I give three stars for now and try one more time in the future.

Don't order the shoyu ramen. The broth is bland and the noodles are poor quality. They give you half an egg and it didn't seem fresh. Portion size is adequate. The pork is given in sufficient quantity relative to the bowl too. Still, the soup sucked enough where overall I would definitely not recommend it. It was so bad I'd even go as far as saying all their ramen would be that bad. I also ordered the eel roll which I didn't particularly think was that great either. At least it didn't break apart as I grabbed it with my chopsticks? Situated in Michigan, I wouldn't expect it to be fresh, and it wasn't. Each piece of the roll was also pretty tiny. Oh well....still in search of a good sushi place in/around A2. Hit me up if you know of one... TIP: Open late (~2AM) for those late nights studying!

Service was lacking and the sushi rolls were sub par. We sat down with tea for about 10 minutes before I started looking around for someone came by to ask if we wanted appetizer. Tea/water was not refilled in a reasonable time and when I asked them if they could just leave the tea pot at our table so we can just refill ourselves, they said that they only had one pot. Maybe they should think about getting more than one tea pot...then the food came. We got the avocado bowl that yelpers recommended but I was disappointed. The proportion of avocado and the tuna smush on the bottom was off. There was not enough avocado...then came the sushi platter. There are many places with better sushi in AA. The rolls are pretty small and I would say the rice they used was not very good...too sticky and mushy? Anyway, maybe their lunch specials are worth it...but definitely not their dinner.

Haven't been here for lunchtime that everyone has been raving about, but have been here for dinner. Prices for the special rolls were exorbitant, but prices were average for the "normal" rolls. I enjoyed the Chirashi immensely. I only ordered the "normal" rolls (spicy salmon, salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, etc) and they all came out in big portions except for the shrimp tempura roll...which was a disappointment. Not enough crunchy shrimp to explain the $5 they charged. In fact, the $3.50 rolls were much bigger and filling. Also, the extra $0.50 for the spicy rolls weren't worth it, in my opinion, because it tasted exactly the same as the non-spicy salmon/tuna rolls. Service was good. Overall, it was a good experience, but I was a bit disappointed at the size and normal taste of the shrimp tempura roll. Heck, Kroger's shrimp tempura rolls probably taste better than this.

I really like their salmon on the beach roll! The lunch special is a steal here--$10 for 3 rolls (from a set menu) and the rolls are understandably smaller than usual, but still very good. The overall menu pricing is very reasonable. I had a Tonkatsu Donburi here that really hit the spot, again, not expensive. Win-win!

The lunch specials here are great. 9 bucks for udon and a roll or a bento box. 10 bucks for 3 rolls. The rolls are small, but tasty. I highly recommend the Nagomi spicy tuna roll, which has this delicious sweet/spicy sauce. Some of my friends love the curry rice because it's like $6 and a lot of food. I'm not a big fan of brown Japanese curry, but to each his own. I will admit that it is a good deal. The salmon on the beach roll is very good. They blow torch the top so it's a little charred. The roll is small, but isn't that expensive.

I like this place mostly because of it's location as it is right down the street from me. I am a fan of their lunch specials, which are reasonably priced. Great lunch specials. Everything is fresh and the restaurant is very clean. The staff is friendly, but occasionally I was not impressed because they made me wait longer than I thought was needed on some carry out orders. Not the best place in town, but very good if you are in NE A2.I prefer them over Saica, and they are a lot better than Umi Sushi.

I am very impressed with Nagomi. The sushi is very good, and the staff does an excellent job with providing good service quickly. I went in a couple of months ago on a cold, blizzard-y day, within an hour of their closing time, hoping to get A LOT of sushi. I ordered the party tray, and the waitress said she needed to check that there was enough time to prepare so much food (totally understandable, since it was so close to closing time). They prepared the platter for me, and it was delicious! In addition, the restaurant recently expanded. It is much larger than it used to be, and the interior design is different, as well. If you used to feel cramped, you won't any longer! I highly recommend Nagomi Sushi.

A great lunch spot on the North Side, with excellent specials. Three rolls, off a limited menu, plus miso and salad was under $10. The tea was delicious and my cup was never empty. Service impeccable for such an establishment. It's not about frills, just about tasty sushi, inexpensively, and fast.

I really want to like this place. The people are so nice, but it just wasn't a good value for the price. The pieces were tender but tiny. I wish my first bite wasn't slimy or that I was prepared for it. Kind of set a back taste for the rest of the plate. Seems to be a popular place though.

Good sushi by the north campus of U Michigan. I got the "Salmon the Beach Roll" and really enjoyed it. It was flame seared (always a fav) and sweetened with honey sauce. I wish I had a bigger appetite tonight to eat more items on the menu. The place is in a small (slightly shady looking) shopping center across from a much larger shopping center on the other side of Plymouth. It's tiny and many of it's two people tables were full when I came in. Students and families, so I say give it a try. Looks (and tastes) pretty authentic.

This is my favorite sushi place in Ann Arbor. It would probably be a four star review in other cities with stronger sushi options overall, but it's a five star for Ann Arbor, in my opinion. First, as others have noted, their lunch specials are ridiculous. The bento boxes are usually awesome and you get so much food for $9. $10 will get you three rolls and soup or salad, and that's also a great deal if you don't mind eating the basic rolls. Secondly, their spicy rolls. Yes, they have the typical spicy mayo based rolls, but they also have a "Nagomi Spicy Tuna (or Salmon)" roll, made with some kind of chili sauce. That roll is amazing - you get huge chunks of the tuna/salmon in it, and the spicy sauce is better than spicy mayo sauce, for me. The Salmon on the Beach roll is ridiculously decadent, and worth the $9 or $10 they have it priced at. I've enjoyed several of the udon dishes as well, and would choose udon over ramen personally. Finally, the staff is always friendly, efficient, and helpful. I eat here often, and I've never had a bad customer service experience!

My mother and I ventured over here after leaving Michigan Stadium, and I must say there wasn't anything that makes it stand out. The service was lack-luster, the waitress was decently nice but she was quite clearly having a bad day. I ordered the tempura udon & edamame and my mother ordered the Godzilla roll & potstickers. Immediately upon ordering, my mother was informed that the potstickers would be coming out last... Um, alright then. The highlight of the meal was the Godzilla roll & edamame. My udon was very bland, and once the potstickers came they were half burnt, half raw, and all over not appealing. We asked to have them removed and they were with no fuss. Compared to places back home, I wouldn't return. Maybe try the sushi town a little down the road that has the rave reviews.

A great little gem in Ann Abor, MI. We ordered a spicy tuna roll and the two different bowls of ramen that they offer. The broth for the ramen was good but the noodles can be improved. I think this place is more known for their udon and I would definitely come back here to try it. The waitress here was super nice and efficient. She definitely made you feel welcomed and if she was behind in doing something, she'll acknowledge your need (getting you menus or checking up on your food) and in a minute or two would do a splendid job of fulfilling it.

The cheapest of my ann arbor sushi tour so far (same order!) Nagomi had a large staff for a small dining room and has very late hours (that'll be great for our hectic schedule). My order was ready very quick. The takeout package was neat and easy to transport. I liked the clear plastic box when I got home to take it out. The food was above average. Tasty, healthy, though some of the rolls and the one nigri did fall apart. The Yellowtail roll was just as large as the inside out rolls, which is better than usual. But the larger pieces of fish did give the look that the rolls weren't well designed or refined. The seaweed salad was tasty and had a bonus piece of crab stick on it! Overal very good. I want to try the Godzilla roll next.

Favorite sushi place in Ann Arbor. I feel like this place is somewhat of a secret since it isn't in bustling downtown Ann Arbor but I think it has the best food, ambience, and parking. The staff are unbelievably nice although some are obviously not native English speakers - it just makes the place feel so cozy! Love the Nagomi spicy tuna roll and the Salmon on the beach roll. They have great lunch specials!

This appears to be a Japanese restaurant run by Koreans but you'd never be able to tell! Granted, I've only tried the Udon Lunch Special so far, which consisted of vegetarian dishes (salad + udon + 6 smal pieces of sushi) so I can't really comment on the freshness or quality of their seafood options. Still, for $7, this is a fantastic deal and I won't hesitate to come back for something different next time.

Seaweed salad was tiny but had good flavor. Veggie tempura was a little heavy on the batter. Zen roll is DELICIOUS. We ordered two. We ordered an udon dish that was a little bland until we sprinkled some of that spicy pixie dust on it (S&B - Nanami Togarashi spice). The prices were higher than what we were used to in Chicago so we might not come here regularly.

To be honest with you, I was pretty leery of this place at first but gave it a try per a recommendation. I was impressed, I thought it was almost as good as Noble Fish which says a lot. Probably the only Sushi place I will venture when in Ann Arbor.

I have never been so disappointed in my fellow yelpers reviews. This place was below sub par. I ordered the sushi combo and the salmon on the beach roll. Total with a side of spicy mayo $26.50 The sushi combo comes with soup or salad. I chose salad. The sushi combo came with 8 pieces of nigiri and a California roll. The California roll was good for a Cali roll. The nigiri however was all awful! I don't know why but all the pieces where too chewy to try to get down. I only got the salmon one down. All the others ended up getting spit back up simply because it took too long to chew! The salmon on the beach roll had eight pieces but of multiple cuts. I couldn't get through the roll. The glaze over it was over powering. The "special house salad" was just bagged salad with their ginger dressing. I liked the taste of the dressing but the salad wasn't good because it got soggy really fast. All in all I wouldn't return and was very disappointed with the quality of everything. I thought I was being picky at first but none or my roommates liked anything either.

Love love love the lunch specials! $10 for 3 rolls and soup or salad. Can't beat that w/a stick. The rolls are huge & delicious. I like the spicy tuna and salmon crunch rolls, & the tempura shrimp roll. I had the chirashi today, good for $12! I wish they paired the udon lunch special w/something more interesting than a California roll. Umi has a much greater selection, but their rolls are small. Lots of other interesting food on the menu too. I'm a big fan! Yotsuba & Miki have the best quality/variety, but it comes w/a price.

    * * - 2 stars - Meh. I've experienced better. Nagomi is the same Japanese-like sushi that you find on campus. Is it bad? Not really. Is it good? Not really. It's like getting sushi at Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Sometimes you want a cucumber or Krab/avacodo roll and have opted for convenience or price over quality. Sometimes you want McDonalds. Sometimes you want a burger made from grass-fed beef. The service was GREAT. I had a carry out bento (detailed below). I will not go back for sushi because: - at 11:30a.m. they had a fridge of pre-cut fish slices stacked, covered in plastic and sitting on ice in the sushi case. - the "tuna" was a most uniform and bright color that I've never seen in fresh fish That's not the kind of sushi I prefer to eat. I might try it again for noodles or donburi. ============ I got a carry out bento box: - the sushi (cali roll) was rolled in very wet rice - the potato salad (which I normally love) was thrown out. It smelled and tasted old. - the pickles were a frighteningly bright yellow - generic iceberg salad with ginger-like dressing - OK - beef dish - heavily marinated - would not recommend - tamago "omelet" slices - hideous color, texture

I've returned. Ordered the ramen and it was actually less pleasant than I remembered - in fact I got sick of the flavors halfway through the bowl, and the toppings were not so exciting. Chicken Yaki Soba was alright, but not particularly amazing either. I'll still come here because I prefer their service and location over the South U sushi scene, but I am less impressed than my first visit...

I'm from the West Coast and travel to the East Coast (mainly NYC) every month so I think I know good Japanese food. I have been frequenting Nagomi when I am in A2 and I've never had a bad meal there. This family-run operation is small but has a loyal following. I prefer to dine at Nagomi for lunch. Their lunch specials (there are always two) are real values and you can't go wrong with either on any given day. Dinner is good too but it gets really crowded, there's no liquor (WTF?), and they've got the darn HDTV cranked up and you can't hear your dining companions speak (but maybe that's a good thing for some couples who come in there to eat...) The staff is always friendly and willing to suggest new things to try.

Me and my girlfriend went here because we wanted to try something new from our typical favorite sushi spot, Sushi Town. We made a huge mistake. The sushi was so bad we couldn't finish it. We ordered a spicy tuna with crunch, a regular spicy salmon, and a shrimp tempura roll. The tuna and salmon rolls looked and tasted exactly the same. They were served as a slimy pile of small pieces mashed together with a thin outer coating of rice. You could not taste the spicy sauce, and there was only a little bit of soggy crunch stuffed inside the roll. We each tried one salmon and one tuna piece each, and literally could not finish the rest. The fish tasted old, and one of the pieces I ate had hard, marbled pieces connecting the various fish bits together (I spit it out). The shrimp tempura roll was okay, but that's pretty hard to screw up. I'm dumfounded by these rave reviews. Seriously; this sushi was absolutely terrible.

came here with my hubby cuz he highly recommended this place. very friendly staff, the rolls are pretty good but my absolute fav is the udon noodles. If you are a pescatarian like me go for the Kake Udon,it's an udon with fish soup base, and the udon is freaking delish.. on top of that the best part is that it's only $5.50. for a HUGE bowl of heavenly udon noodles. wish I found out about this place earlier :)

I have been here several times and I thought it was about that time to write my review. Hands down the best sushi restaurant in Ann Arbor! I like this place for several reasons. First, let's talk about the food! When you go out to eat sushi and you order a standard spicy tuna roll you typically will get chopped up tuna mixed with a spicy mayo. Nagomi offers a tasty alternative to the traditional spicy tuna roll. Instead you'll enjoy a large piece of tuna with a modest touch of their own homemade spicy mayo. It taste that much better! This place doesn't fill you up with a bunch of rice and little filling. The sushi tastes fresh. The bento box is also a hit for lunch. Only $9 for a variety of different Japanese favorites chosen by the Chef. Did I mention they also make their own soy sauce. Never ask for the low sodium soy sauce. It taste way saltier than their homemade concoction. The restaurant is clean, modern, warm and inviting. All are important components for a pleasant day out to eat. All of the staff are super nice, attentive and always say goodbye after you leave. All in all a great place for amazing sushi!

This is a nice little, seemingly family run, lunch place that has been ruined by the latest batch of serving personnel. They are hopeless. Food is still good and good value, but man, they could bring your food in the right order and offer drink refills.

Best sushi rolls and noodles in Ann Arbor. Yes, even better than the more expensive ones! Their special rolls are well-made and fresh (I've tried almost all of them), and the Kamo Nanban soup is perfectly seasoned. I've never ordered a bento box here, but they look very generously portioned when other tables order them. Miso soup or starter salad come complimentary with entrees, but they're a bit meager. The entrees definitely make up for it, and I'd much rather keep the prices low than beef up these items. Tips: Order special rolls, bento box, or noodles (soup).

One of my favorite restaurants. Decently priced, especially if you go during the lunch special. Great customer service. The food comes out quickly and is always plated nicely. They also have a good selection of sushi options for people who don't like eating raw fish.

Nagomi is our favorite sushi place in A2. We lived close by and the convenience of the location was definitely a plus. Kitsune Udon Noodle bowl is my favorite dish. The tofu had a perfect texture and savory flavor. We recently moved out of the area and this is one place that we miss! The staff is very friendly.

I've been going here since they have opened and have never been disappointed. They have great Udon (the Nabeyaki Udon is particularly tasty) and exceptional sushi (you have to try the Nagomi Spicy Tuna and the Salmon on the Beach rolls). Their house-made salad dressing will make their salad the best you'll probably ever have the pleasure of tasting at a sushu. The staff are all exceptionally friendly and the already amiable atmosphere is heightened by the awesome jazz playing in the background. To make it even more tempting, the prices are very affordable. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for sushi are just a comfortable and friendly dining experience.

As you can see from my previous review, I used to be a fan of Nagomi. But the last two meals I have had here were super disappointing, and I don't think I'll be back. A few weeks ago I had a tuna roll with old tasting fish. Last night I ordered an East roll (salmon, cucumber avocado) and a shrimp tempura/avocado/cucumber roll. Both rolls were falling apart, did not have the right proportion of filling to rice, and were just generally a mess. The shrimp tempura roll was especially bad - the cucumber was ice cold, the shrimp was room temp and seemed like it had been fried a long time ago, and it had way too much filling for the amount of rice. I'm sad to say I think this restaurant had a strong start but is now mediocre at best.

It's alright... Nothing fancy, nothing impressive, nothing authentic, just another Japanese restaurant run by Korean. My husband seems to Iike it for their lunch specials though, which I agree is a pretty good deal. The bento box changes daily (I assume... I've been there a few times, and every time is different), and costs $9. The noodle combo is udon plus some kind of roll. My husband always gets the 3 rolls for $10 deal, and he loves the Nagomi tuna. Overall, it's a good place for a quick lunch, and may be cheaper than getting a box of sushi from Kroger, etc.

Most of the other reviews have hit on the key points as to why Nagomi is so great--I've become a regular there for a couple reasons. First and foremost, the service is spectacular (a rarity in this town it seems anymore); staff are always smiling and ready to help. Next, the lunch specials provide a whole array of dishes to try and at very affordable prices. My favorite is the Kitsune Udon-- a simple tasty soup with tofu. Nagomi is great for the amateur and professional sushi eater as far as I'm concerned. As others have pointed out, the location isn't the greatest, but the way I see it, it prevents Nagomi from being overrun with sushi "connoisseurs" and allows me to enjoy it in the relaxed atmosphere with great jazz that they've provided.

Had dinner there for the first time yesterday and was a little disappointed. The rolls are much smaller than other places of comparable price in Ann Arbor. I ordered a Spicy Salmon handroll, which was okay, and a Rainbow Roll, which kept falling apart and I thought was bland. It's a small place and the atmosphere is pretty welcoming. Service was fast and the staff was very friendly, but I would only come back here if other sushi places were packed.

We don't really get ramen spots out here in Philly, so when I visited Ann Arbor, I was hoping to find a ramen joint. Well, Nagomi isn't quite a ramen joint, but they do have ramen, and one bowl was enough to satiate my craving. Sure, it wasn't as good as a lot of the ramen joints I've been to on the coasts or in Japan - e.g., there were not a wide variety of flavors like tonkatsu ramen, there weren't any additions like corn and garlic to add, and well, the chefs weren't japanese - but overall it was a good effort and the noodles tasted pretty good. And the owners are very nice.

Nagomi is a proof that *most* people who write reviews on Yelp don't know what the heck they are talking about. I have read all the good comments about them on here, went in Nagomi to feel like I was making a fool of myself. They didn't live up to their reputation and expectation. I think most the good reviews here are due to the fact that they were giving away free food for their grand opening. What I like at Nagomi: 1) Great service mind. The Korean azuma waiting tables has great smiles. 2) Their Nagomi spicy tuna has good flavoring sauce, not too mild but not too killing. But this is not enough for me to go back there. I feel like it is more of a gambling to go in there and actually like what is served. Why? I had both kitchen item (Udon -- a few people had told me they made great udon) and sushi bar item. And here are what my honest opinions can give: 1) The sushi guy's knife skill failed horribly. If the knife is dull, don't use it. Good chefs always make sure that his knife is super sharp before cutting the fish. *Good* sushi chefs know how a dull knife can ruin the fish. And if the knife was sharp, and Nagomi's sushi guy still could not manage to cut his fish in one long slice, but rather slide it back and forth like he was using a saw, my two pence here is for him to give it a bit more practice before actually running sushi bar. 2) I have no problem with a smaller piece 2-dollar tuna nigiri. I understand that you get what you pay for. And if they go with a cheaper price, yes I expect that I'm going to get a thinner slice of fish and I'm cool with that. ***BUT*** the -key- to good nigiri and the make-it-or-break-it deal for the sushi chef is, can you balance the rice and the fish? If you cut a smaller piece of fish, use less rice. Their nigiri isn't too big so I can fit the whole nigiri in my mouth in one bite. But I had a sh-t load of rice left in my mouth once i swallowed all the fish. I put everything in my mouth altogether, how on earth did I end up with half the rice stuck in my mouth at the end of the bite? If you know anything about nigiri, you will know what I mean. 3) The sushi rice was wet and was all mashed up together that the surface looked like it was covered with rice paste to me. Of course, this contributed to why I had the rice left-over in my mouth after taking a bite of nigiri. If you have paste-like wet sushi rice, it is not going to blend well with your fish. 4) White tuna nigiri was a good touch in the set I had. But to serve white tuna as-is like the way they do at Nagomi, it only shows that the sushi guy did not know anything about the fish. If you doubt what I say, try ordering white tuna nigiri at Godaiko, Yamato, or even Saica across the street, you will see why. 5) I do not want my fish to be pre-cut like they do at Nagomi. It ruins the fish. period. 6) Their kitchen item failed to impress me terribly. I understand that they are not specialized in udon/ramen. So what I get might be the soup from instant soup base (Hon-dachi + other flavoring if the kitchen chef knows what he is doing at all). So how did it go VERY wrong??? Even with the instant soup base, they didn't put enough to make their soup taste like anything but water. Same weak soup base went to their miso soup, and it tasted like I was drinking water with my sushi when I took a sip of their miso soup. In conclusion, - Nagomi food is NOT cheap. It's you get what you pay for. For 7 bucks, there is nothing else in their udon but the noodle, soup, and tempura flake /or/ tofu skin. Of course, anyone can make that udon for 7 bucks and still make profit. I'd rather pay a bit more and get all the proper garnish and more-proper soup (even though that means hon-dachi instant soup base at most places in Ann Arbor). And for 2-dollar nigiri, of course, the thin slice of fish is what you get. - I can tell that they have very high ambition from the menu that I see, but their execution cannot live up to it. They are lucky they even got 2 stars from me, I give them credit for free miso soup, free appetizer (pickled cucumber that I am not crazy about. Chilled cucumber with bits of kanikama (fake crab) in vinegar + a bit of sugar and salt, not my thing), great service mind. but as far as food goes, they have a long lonnngggg way to go. I might come back some time, but not in the near future.

If you're looking for affordable sushi, this is the place! However, you'll need a car or ride a bus to get there from central campus! The combos are definitely worth checking out.

  • Angel W.

I've had very good udon, tempura, soba, donburi, and sushi here. Very friendly staff. Service seems a little slower since the expansion , but quality hasn't suffered. This is our first choice for Japanese food in the area.

    (4)
  • Tiffany B.

I've been here a few times. I really like the expansion. As far as sushi places go it's pretty standard. There isn't really anything special about it but it wasn't terrible either. I'd go again if there's no other sushi place I feel like going to.

    (3)
  • Lylian D.

Outstanding value. Excellent dishes at affordable price! I came in mid afternoon so the place was empty, but food was served fast and hot. Highly recommended for budget sushi and Asian food.

Even after the expansion, this place continues to provide great service and excellent food. The sushi is pretty good for being in a landlocked location.

  • Suki K.

  • Jennifer D.

  • Mugusta S.

Win-win!

    (4)
  • Patrick T.

  • Beth H.
